The wondering yogi Mahasiddha Kukuripa is easily identifiable, for he is always depicted with a dog, which relates to his experience of enlightenment.  In this painting, Mahasiddha Kukuripa is portrayed with dark complexion, signifying his body being exposed to the elements.  He is seated upon leaves outside the cave in which the dog – who is actually a Dakini (female Buddha) in disguise – dwelled and liberated him. The landscape demonstrates a sense of tranquility and seclusion, depicting the unique nature of the lifestyle of a Mahasiddha.  The three mountains amidst the clouds in the upper portion of the painting represent the Trayastrima heaven where he was invited to give teachings.
